Course Details

Course details have changed in 2010! Race headquarters will be in Dardanup

Competitors will be given full course details and maps 4 hours before the start of the race.

The course is being held in south-west Western Australia approximately 2 hours south of Perth with the race headquarters in the town of Dardanup, 15 minutes from Bunbury

Disciplines will include:
  • Trek/run
  • Mountain Bike
  • Kayak
The organisers are currently planning the new course for 2010. Distance breakdowns will be posted closer to the race date but the rough total distance is 100km.  This might seem short however, be aware that the terrain around the area is very hilly and we would advise everyone to do as much hill training as they can.

These distances are an indication only and the course could change right up to the start due to uncontrollable influences such as the river level.

The course is designed for the faster teams to finish in around 16-18 hours with the rest of the field coming in around the 24 hour mark.  There will be no cut-offs but teams may have to short course if they are not going to finish before midday Sunday.

Kayaks will be provided by the organisers.  This year, racers' may have to provide there own pfd's and paddles. We will let people know closer to the race as we are still negotiating this.

All disciplines will be combined with navigation. Navigation is very important, especially night navigation. Teams who don't have expericance navigating at night can potentially cover much more ground and will be very slow, possibly not finishing in the expected time. Other disciplines may be included, though these may not be revealed prior to the race briefing.

Teams will race unsupported (e.g. with no external assistance from anyone other than race officials) across the course which will comprise of 8-12 legs of varying lengths. The race organisers will ensure that all of the teams' required gear will be transported to and waiting for them at each transition area.

Teams will provide plastic trunks that the organisers will place at transition areas. These can contain any gear and/or food that the teams require during the race. The race rules contain details on the types and number of trunks that the teams will supply.

This style of adventure racing will benefit teams that work together well, as teamwork and organisational skills will factor in the success of the team.
