Mandatory gear is equipment required to be carried either by a person or by the team. Mandatory gear is included for the safety of the competitors.
There will be regular mandatory gear checks throughout the course. With large penalties given to teams who are not carrying gear (e.g. cold weather gear, the area is known to get to negative temperatures at this time of year) The race organisers will be supplying kayak's. However compeditors need to use their own PFD's and paddles. Compeditors must use the kayaks provided. *NOTE Some changes may be made to the Mandatory Gear LIst for 2009. An updated list will be sent out closer to the event. Use this list as a guide to what will be required.
